![]() Hello, Today, July 26, was my saint day, Santa Ana. Saint Ana also spelt Anna or Anne, was the mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus Christ. Spaniards have a tradition of celebrating saints days. Saint days are similar to birthdays. Your birthday is celebrated on the day you are born. Saint days are celebrated on the day of your namesake saints day. In Spain, Saint Ana is the patron saint of grandparents, and her day is celebrated on July 26. There is a beautiful sculpture of St. Ana with the Virgin Mary and Child Jesus that I love. The sculpture "SANTA ANA TRIPLE" or Trinitarian, is the work of Gil of Siloam, also cited as Gil de Siloe (Amberes? 1440 - Burgos 1504), architect and sculptor, one of the first artists of the Renaissance in Spain. The Gothic Polychrome sculpture, Hispano-Flemish style, belongs to the Altarpiece ot St. Ana, Constable's Chapel, Cathedral of Burgos. In my opinion, this is one of the most gorgeous polychomed statuary housed in Spain. I am fascinated with the techniques of gilding and especially polychromatic of this piece.

Hello,
After a wonderful month off, in Spain, I am back in Vancouver. The first commision I have had since being back if to restore a desktop gilded with fake gold leaf or metal leaf. This commission is from a new client, The Craftsman's Touch. The desktop was repainted with gold powder where the metal gold leaf was missing. The most complicated part of this commission was to match the tone of the old metal gold leaf to the existing metal gold leaf on the rest of the piece. Today I finished the table, and I am very pleased with the result, as is the client. |
