Repairing wood cracks

2/29/2012

Hello,
last week I went back again to The Holy Family Parish. I took photos of the finished gold pew, the light from the lamps is reflected in the gold leaf.
I am happy with the result.
Now I have to repair some cracks in the wood of oak altar and the rail.
The abrupt climate changes are the main causes of the appearance of fissures
 (cracks).
Cracking is caused by temperature changes and moisture.
Another cause of the  occurrence of cracks may be the use of wood that is not properly dried. All wood must be dried very slowly and some types are more prone to cracking during drying than others, and also it is important that the cutting of the wood is done correctly.

These cracks can be filled and masked with epoxy mastic wood two components.
