The course is designed to learn the Water Gilding Technique, step by step, with genuine gold leaf on a wooden board, made with gesso and bole and using the ancient techniques used during the Middle Ages in Europe.
WORKSHOP FEE: The course is for one person and the cost would be $600.00 Canadian + GST, and $450.00 + GST, for existing past students.
WORSHOP DATES and TIMES: Being personal, the schedule of each class and duration of each class is flexible to the student and can be adapted. You will receive my notes of everything you are going to learn during the course.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN DURING THE COURSE: - Preparation of the wood surface
- Laying and gluing of linen.
- Preparation and application of Gesso. - Elaboration and application of Armenian Bole.
- All Formulas.
- Types of gold leaf. - - Gold leaf burnishing and matte gold
- Drawing transfer and incision.
- Relief work: Pastiglia
- Protective varnish
- Sgraffito and brushstrokes
- Tooling (incising)
- Other decorative methods: precious stones and enamels - - Care of your tools and materials.
In the first class I will tell you all the materials you need for the course, and I will show you with different examples made by me, the techniques that you are going to learn.
The following tools will be necessary for the course and, if the student does not have them, I will provide several web pages where they can buy them: - A gilding pad.
- A gilder's knife.
- An agate stone burnisher.
- The tip of a gilder.
- A feather brush.
